IMMATERIAL PROJECT
January 10, 2012
OPENING: 6PM
Galerie BEX
12 Rue Jean Ferrandi, Paris Cedex 06

「IMMATERIAL PROJECT」

IDOLONSTUDIO is pleased to present "IMMATÉRIEL DE PROJET" curated by WANG Chun-Chi(TW). The opening reception scheduled for Tuesday, January 10 at 6pm and will include Sound and Physical Performance by Lukas Truniger(CH)+Vera Chen(TW) and music performance by Antje Vowinckel(DE) beginning at 7:30pm.

"IMMATÉRIEL DE PROJET": Hold conceptual dimensions: The invited artists tended to construction with varied materials and de-materialized media; though their art work was still precise, rich and intelligent. What was ultimately denoted by all the artworks was humanity- an individual's reflections upon themselves and the outside world.
The exhibition "IMMATÉRIEL DE PROJET" are brings together of Photographics / Visual and Sound Installation of "Variations for graphite/Icosahedron " by Atsunobu Kohira(JP), "Portrait I&II" by Anna-Sabina Zürrer(CH), "Everlasting the same" by Kim Westerström (SE) and "The Magic Mountain" by Marie Jager(DK).

Atsunobu Kohira Atsunobu Kohira is a Japanese artist lives and works in Paris. The work "Variations for graphite/Icosahedron" is perception and the raw materials on the earth, which contain all the works. (silver and salt-light and sound in the photography, phenomena of the soil, micro particles of Triadic compositions, and graphite of the new work.) His works more relationship is about the micro materials and universal dimension.

Anna-Sabina Zürrer Anna-Sabina Zürrer is a Swiss artist lives and works in Sachseln Obwalden currently residing in Paris. The artist uses photographs, which she found, and which, through a chemical process, disappear. The audience can watch the process of washing out the color on a video or directly during a live performance. In the end, the washed photographs, are mounted on the wall, but they refer to their origin. In parallel, a glass jar is displayed which contains the bleached out colors of the photographs. Through the reflection of the light in the jar or in the white and empty photographs at the wall, diffuse new pictures develops – a very poetic method dealing with remembering and forgetting.

Kim Westerström Kim Westerström is a Swedish artist based in Malmö currently residing in Berlin. In Kim Westerström ́s work the personal experience meets a conceptual approach. Melancholy meditations on man's predicament are presented with a special kind of humor. In his work memory and time are connected to various objects that we are surrounded by. The work "Everlasting, the same" (2011) consist of two black and white photos. In the work we see the photographic documentation of different sculptures made of frozen ink. The first picture shows a cast of the inside of a toy castle standing on a square of styrofoam. In the second picture the ice castle have been put in water and then frozen again. This iceblock have been left on a towel on the ground to melt. The black inside of the toy is turned insideout and the hard plastic material is converged into ice. The ice is melting, water is taking over and the object slowly dissapears.

Marie Jager Marie Jager is a Danish artist. She received a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Southern California in 2004. She was selected to present work in the 2006 California Biennale. Her work has been exhibited at the Hayward Gallery, London; Sculpture Center and Artists Space, New York; the Henry Art Gallery, Seattle; Nordic Institute of Contemporary Art, Helsinki; MAK Center, Los Angeles among others. Jager's practice is a combination of conceptual and contextual gestures exercised through film, photography, painting, collage and installation. The work title "The Magic Mountain" is from Thomas Mann's 1924 novel Der Zauberberg which takes place a century ago at Waldsanatorium in Davos, Switzerland. Jager's point of departure is the Barlow Respiratory Hospital, one of the oldest sanatorium in the United States built in 1902 in Elysian Park, Los Angeles. Focusing on the architecture and landscape of the institution, Jager's work examines the notions of interludes and interruptions in time and space, as well as the early concepts of modern architecture. The weathered works, exposed to the sun, rain and air, reflect this period where indoor and outdoor spaces were inverted, the private looked institutional and vice versa.

Antje Vowinckel Antje Vowinckel is a Berlin based composer, director and performer. In her compositions she is focused on "Prosodic Composition", based on the musicality of spoken word. In recent years, she has also created live performances, installations and a video composition. A number of her works employ fragments of documentary speech which are then transposed into a musical structure. She uses instrumental and electronic instruments as well as every-day-life sounds which are interspersed between music and narration. In her performance "organ and objects" she plays an old Korg-Organ, percussion objects and objects in a vibrating speaker. Another organ performance is based on textes by Gertrude Stein.

Lukas Truniger Lukas Truniger was born in Zurich, studies in Germany and has a recidency in Paris at the moment. He is a musician, sounddesigner and an artistic programmer. In his work he is searching for new sounds in the environment as well as in the digital domain and he is engaging in the impact of sound in space. His tasks includes live music, installations and filmsound, so he is often working at the conjunction between sonic and visuall reception. He is also working on his own instruments.
